I backpacked through the Valley of 10,000 Smokes in Katmai to learn about the 1912 eruption of Novarupta. We hiked to the caldera lake at Mount Katmai, a place that fewer than 20 people visit annually.

Earth Sciences and Climate Studies
This research project broadened my horizons within classical piano performance. I learned about preparing effective written materials on my topic and presenting sometimes esoteric music theory ideas in an accessible way. It was great to get support from CURE for my research in female composers - an intersection of music and history that interests me and that I believe deserves attention and research

Economics and Music Performance
The most valuable skill I gained through the FYRE fellowship was the ability to fail disastrously and troubleshoot my shortcomings. I have failed over and over again with experimental design, data analysis, etc., and I have really been humbled over and over again- but I am so passionate about the projects I have been working on that the failure has motivated me to figure it out and power through.
