International Transfer Applicants

You should apply for admission as an international student if you are not a United States citizen or a permanent resident of the United States. An international student is defined by meeting the following criteria:

• Enters or is in the U.S. specifically for the purpose of study
• Does not have U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident status but is currently in the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa (F-1, J-1, etc.)
• Does not hold permanent resident status (a “green card”)

To access the International Application for Undergraduate Admission, you can use the online UO application.

The UO Office of Admissions maintains a webpage with online information to assist you in completing your application.

1. Academic requirements: For transfer level admission to the UO, you must have completed 36 quarter credits (24 semester credits) with a B-/C+ average or a 2.50 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale. If you have fewer than 36 credits (24 semester credits) you must meet the 2.50 GPA transfer requirement and the freshman admission requirements.

   Official transcripts are required if you have attended any college, university, technical school, or other institution. Official transcripts by the granting institution must be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar via mail or email.

   If your previous institution(s) offer official electronic copies sent by a secured provider (National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) or Parchment), you may have them sent directly from the institution to [email protected].

2. English proficiency: If your native language is not English, you must submit results of a standardized language test or meet an exemption requirement. Please review test score requirements before applying.

3. Conditional admission: The UO may offer conditional admission to international undergraduate students who have not yet reached the required level of English language proficiency. If you are conditionally admitted, you will attend UO Global Welcome to study English in an intensive environment. Upon successful completion of the highest level of English instruction at UO Global Welcome, you will be granted full admission to the UO. UO Global Welcome students can submit passing English proficiency test results to be considered for full admission before they have completed all UO Global Welcome coursework. However, a passing English proficiency test result does not guarantee admission.

4. Demonstrating financial resources: According to U.S. government regulations, all applicants who must obtain a student visa to study in the U.S. must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to pay for tuition costs and living expenses while at the UO. As proof of your financial resources, you must send a bank statement or a certificate of balance prepared within the last six months or a scholarship letter with your application.

5. Personal statements and letters of recommendation (optional): You may send a personal statement with your application to explain special circumstances in your life that have affected you or your education. Letters of recommendation are not required for admission to the UO as an undergraduate but can be included in support of a student’s application for admission.
