Housing: Your First Year
Together with all first-year Ducks, you’ll start your life at the UO living and bonding with friends in one of our many on-campus residence halls.
Academic Residential Communities
Passionate about the performing arts? Live with performers and make music together in a dedicated practice studio. Committed to sustainability? Room with like-minded friends and go on group trips. Whatever your interest, you can live with people who inspire you and learn together, in and out of the classroom.
Residential Communities
Build an intentional community with a group of folks who share your identity or experience. Two examples: The UO’s Gender Expansive and Queer Residential Community where you live with students of any gender, and First Year Explorers, where you room with others who are still figuring out their major and can get help deciding from faculty advisors.
Choose Your Hall, Find Your People
Not sure who you want to live with? Choose where you want to live. Opt for housing that puts you at the center of campus. Pick the hall that lets you roll out of bed and hit the gym, or the one with music practice rooms. Wherever you choose, you’ll have study and common areas, and most rooms are doubles.
Live and Learn
Learning is part of everyday life at the UO. Every hall has a faculty member who’s there to inspire and guide you. Faculty host events for their hall and might stop by for lunch. They want to get to know you and share their knowledge about life on campus and beyond.

Astro ARC is a special Academic Residential Community that invites anyone who’s ready for an adventure to get involved in the UO’s observatory. Live together and explore the universe.
Living Off Campus
Non-first year undergraduates, along with transfer and graduate students, can opt to live off-campus. We’re here with resources to help you navigate your options.
University Apartments
Oregon has University Apartments in five neighborhoods. Options include quiet single-story houses, cozy Cedar apartments, and graduate housing with a modern vibe.

Farm-to-table, locally sourced, special diet–friendly… the UO will change how you think about campus food. Pick from five dining halls, an all-you-can-eat buffet, and cafes and markets spread around campus. We’ve picked a few faves.

Most first-year students live on campus. You can apply for an exemption if you live locally with a parent or guardian, are an older student, or have done a gap year program.
The UO offers a student-led roommate matchmaking process. Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll be able to access the My Housing portal, where you’ll tell us a little about yourself and your lifestyle. Want to room with a friend? You can search for and select them as a roommate.
Bathroom arrangements depend on your residence hall and room type.
Some first-year halls and room types—for example, Earl Hall and Justice Bean Hall doubles—have semi-private shared bathrooms on your floor that one person uses at a time.
Some halls, like LLC and Carson, have community style bathrooms on your floor that are separated by gender.
In other doubles and many triple rooms—for example, in Barnhart, Kalapuya Ilihi, and Unthank halls—you share a private bathroom with your roommate(s).
Suite-style rooms share a bathroom or shower with another room or rooms, so it’s more private than a whole-floor communal setup, but not a private in-room bath.
University of Oregon residence halls range in price from $12,500 to $23,000 a year. Single rooms generally cost more than shared rooms.
We take food seriously. It’s good, it’s fresh, it’s local. And you’ll find tons of options on campus.
Yes! Students who live on campus are required to have a meal plan (unless you live in Yasui Hall). We offer a range of flexible point-system plans. You can also purchase a meal plan if you live off-campus.
Oregon has plenty of dining hall options for vegetarians and vegans. Most of our dining spots have at least one vegetarian and vegan option, and many have way more.
